Hi, welcome to DrOrie.com. Here you will experience my clinical insights, culinary rx, wholesome food photography, health media projects, and styling for living a life of wellness. You might also see my occasional trips to the farm for fresh ingredients and inspiration.
My passion for plants began when I was a little girl. I grew up on a small Texas farm in a wonderfully creative family of doctors, nurses, musicians, and artists. Our Saturday ritual was to harvest the fields and cook up what we gathered while my brothers set the mood with their acoustic guitar riffs. These times in a farmhouse kitchen honed my cooking skills and appreciation for the nourishment of plants.
When I got older, I left this life for the city to pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor. However, in my late 20s I was diagnosed with the hormonal imbalance condition polycystic ovarian syndrome. After the reality of having the illness set in, I changed my out-of-the-box eating habits and started living closer to the ground again.
Fast forward ten years and I’m in clinical practice and public health, seeing patients with cardiovascular conditions, cancers, diabetes, premature aging, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, and metabolic syndromes. After charting similar profiles for these patients, I realized that many of their conditions could be better managed with a plant-based diet. That’s why I started this website. Through recipes with health notes, podcasts, and videos, my goal is to provide you with an education on what to eat to beat illnesses and realize the true potential of your body. Let’s have some fun!
