6 Quick Fixes for a Dull, Tired Complexion

A multi-hyphenate like yourself has likely experienced sleep deprivation and fatigue from chasing your dreams day after day. While our enthusiasm and passion for what we’re creating energizes us to keep moving forward, the telltale signs of our hectic lifestyles do show up on our faces. The best remedy is always to slow down to get proper sleep and self care. However, if you need a quick fix to get by a little longer (hence, until the big presentation with the potential buyer next Monday or that interview with a publication you must be in) then here are six tips for rejuvenating and brightening your complexion for the next few days.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin is the best way to immediately brighten up a dull complexion. This process gets rid of dead cells and leaves you with a fresh layer of skin. There are many ways to do this, from manual to chemical exfoliation. The latter may need some down time so during this busy moment for you a quick manual exfoliation with a 5-10% lactic or glycolic acid scrub will do the trick.

Ice

When you are having an exceptionally sleepy day, you can wake your skin (and yourself) up by icing your face. Simply take an ice cube or an ice pack and rub it all over your skin. Alternatively, you can wash your face with some cold water. The cold from the ice or water stimulates blood flow which can help tighten your pores and make your skin look awake again.

Chill

This tip falls in line with the above suggestion. Put all your skincare products in the fridge at night and use them cold in the morning. It will have the same effect on your skin as ice or cold water. By using cold products on your face you will immediately feel a reduction in puffy or tired skin.

Hydrate

A well hydrated body keeps your skin fresh and bright. Drink lots of water throughout the day, especially in the morning before breakfast. Drinking water on an empty stomach helps flush out toxins from your gut, which can also improve your skin health. Add a squeeze of lemon to the water to allow the vitamin C clarify your skin.

Mask

Masks are another way to rid your skin of dead cells and expose a fresh, vibrant layer of skin underneath. A good mask can effectively remove all traces of dirt, oil and makeup, which can give your skin a renewed effect right away. For dull and dry skin, opt for a mask that has the cooling effects of cucumber and mint.

Blush

Other than a concealer and a highlighter, you can also use blush to add more life to your skin. Pick a blush that compliments your skin tone. A pale blush works well with fair complexions while a bright blush works well with rich complexions. Find the apples of your cheeks and use a blush brush to apply it. Focus on the high points of your cheek and blend it towards your temples. The redness of your cheeks is a sign of youthful radiance and wakefulness.

The above tips can help rejuvenate and brighten your skin in no time! However, keep in mind that these are quick fixes. Ultimately you want to structure your multi-hypenate lifestyle to include a day or two of self care and wellness. These practices will help you present your best self and keep you in the game as long as you want to be in it.
